Watching the moon set in the west in the early morning hours while we drive to Topaz Mountain.
Lots of antelope on the way.
Will found a scorpion while digging around for topaz.

It does take some patience and effort to find the good stuff, but it is soo much fun!

Will dug around for a while in various holes in a river bed.
The kids loved the rock formations. Nothing better than playing mountain goat in the morning.
After the topaz, we headed to the geode beds to try our luck there. We found tons! And Annie was our resident cracker. She carefully cracked the geodes to see the pretty crystals inside.
Toby had a good time too. But he was worn out by the end of the day.
Eliza buried herself on the side of a geode pit and then had sand in her pants for the rest of the day.

Jaran was loving every bit of the dig.

And we even saw a Pony Express marker way out in the middle of no where. Cool!
After the geodes and topaz, we stopped to pick up some obsidian that was out there. It was such a fun treasure hunt! We even heard there was garnet in a certain area, but a little harder to find.
We came home dirty and tired with our pockets full of rocks and dirt.
And the kids LOVED it!
