Day 1 at Primary Children's Medical Center

We arrived at the hospital around 9:00 am and went to the second floor to check in. After getting a check up and getting hospital jammies on, we went to wait for a few hours in the pre-op area. Annie and I played store with a little cash register, and then the Child Life specialist came and let Annie play with the doctor stuff. She had the cute little surgery buddy (dressed in a BYU hospital gown) on the head pillow while she checked the little buddy's pulse, tempature, pulse ox and breathing. Then she did all the same things on me.

After playing store and doctor, we bounced a ball and read a book. Finally we were able to get a bed for her to lie down on and she got some calming medicine before she went back. During the time it took to kick in, we played a round of Old Maid, and a couple rounds of Go Fish. Will and I couldn't help laughing as Annie got grogier and grogier. We would remind her of her turn and a few seconds later she would ask, "What did you say". She was fighting it hard and eventually had to lay down to play.

Our plastic surgeon, Dr. Warnock came in to visit with us soon after that and gave us the best news! He said that he would not have to take bone from her right hip to use in the bone graft area. He explained that when he would cut the bone of the upper jaw, that because there are so many different bones the cuts were often jagged and that he would have to even out the site and the extra bone from the jagged edges would be just enough for the graft. It was so great to hear that she would not have to deal with that again.

We also met with the anesthesiologist and a few minutes after that, Annie was wheeled back to the OR in her bed. I was surprisingly calm, because usually that is the hardest part for me. Will on the other hand was a little weepy. I know that the prayers given in our behalf helped all of us get through that hard time. I also couldn't help think of angels who were surrounding us.
